Friends, today in this article we will know about the selection of the construction site of the Jal Shakti Griha. I am going to give information about all this in a very good way. So let’s start.
Selection of place for hydroelectric power house-
- Availability of Water – Sufficient amount of water should be available at a certain head. Rainfall data of the last few years should be available so that it can be known how much maximum and minimum rainfall occurs at that place during the year so that the correct amount of water that will be available for the hydroelectric power house can be known.
- Storage of Water – Since we do not have rain throughout the year and due to more or less rainfall at some place, storage of water is very important to run the hydroelectric power house properly throughout the year. When there is heavy rainfall or flood, then a certain amount of water is used in the hydroelectric power house, the rest of the water flows away in vain. Therefore, water is collected by building a dam at a suitable place so that when there is drought or less rainfall, this water can be used to run the hydroelectric power house smoothly.
- Head of Water – The head of water depends on the topography of the place, the higher the head of water, the less amount of water will be required to be collected, which will reduce the cost of the dam. Therefore, the dam should be built at a place where the catchment area is sufficient so that maximum amount of water can be collected and the head of water also increases.
- Cost of Land – Since a large amount of land is required for a hydroelectric power house, a place should be selected where a large amount of land is available and is cheap. In future, if the capacity of the power house has to be increased, then sufficient amount of land should be available nearby so that expansion can be done easily.
- Geological Survey – The land on which the dam is constructed should be rocky so that it absorbs less water and at the same time it should be strong enough to bear the weight of the dam. While constructing the dam, land should also be available to divert the water to the other side.
- Distance from Load Center – The distance of the hydroelectric power house should be minimum from the load center so that the electric transmission and distribution cost is minimum.
- Accessibility of Site – As far as possible, there should be facility of reaching the power house by road or rail so that the necessary goods or machines can be delivered quickly and easily.
- Water Pollution – Clean water should be used for the hydroelectric power house because water comes in direct contact with the turbine blades, so if the water is polluted then the turbine blades will rust and they will get damaged.
