Three Phase Electronic Energy Meter – Three-phase electronic energy meter is a measurement device used to measure the electrical energy consumed in electrical systems. It is used to measure residential and industrial areas.
Structure of three-phase electronic energy meter
The main components of the three-phase electronic energy meter are as follows –
- Voltage and Current Sensor – Voltage and current sensors are used to measure voltage and current in each phase in the electronic energy meter. CT and PT are used for voltage and current measurement.
- Analog to Digital Converter (ADC) – Analog signals are converted into digital signals by ADC sensor. It is operated by a microcontroller. It provides output signals according to the supply signals.
- Microcontroller/Digital Signal Processor – This is the main part of the electronic energy meter. It handles energy consumption calculation, data logging, display. Communication is also possible through this.
- Memory – It stores the cumulative energy consumption calculation for a specified time period. It displays the load profile and event log.
- Display Unit – This is the result displaying part of the electronic energy meter. It displays the results of electrical energy consumption, current, voltage and power factor.
- Communication Module – Electronic energy meters generally use RS485, GSM or Wi-Fi for remote data collection and monitoring.
Working Principle of Triphase Electronic Energy Meter
The principle of electronic energy meter is based on voltage and current wave sampling. Through this, energy is calculated by measuring the intensity of waves. On connecting the energy meter compatible with the supply, signals are sensed by voltage and current sensors. The value of power is determined by data logging of signals through them. Under data logging, the value of energy consumption in a certain interval can be determined.
